1940s IND New York Subway Sign w/Routes: D 6TH AVE, 14x28 inches

$74.00

This New York Subway sign is 14 inches wide and 28 inches long. It is made of a cloth-like material called Vellum.

Routes are: D, DD.

The D Train began with the opening of the 6th Avenue IND subway in 1940. The DD only existed for a few weeks in the 1950s when a water maine break and subsequent flood required a reroute of service.

The sign is in fantastic condition for its age.

There is a small piece of material missing at the lower left corner.

Please carefully review the photos before making your purchase.

This sign came from trains that operated between the 1930s and 1970s on the lettered routes. The IND started service in 1936. Shortly after, the City of New York annexed control of the other, then-private, subways. While the operations remained distinct at first, services were realigned to share tracks.
