1960s IND New York Subway Sign w/Destinations: BAY PARKWAY 57th Street, 19x30 inches

This New York Subway sign is 19 inches wide and 30 inches long. It is made of a cloth-like material called Vellum.

57TH STREET

The sign is in fantastic condition for its age.

There is a small piece of material missing at the lower left corner.

This sign came from trains that operated between the 1930s and 1970s on the lettered routes. The IND started service in 1936. Shortly after, the City of New York annexed control of the other, then-private, subways. While the operations remained distinct at first, services were realigned to share tracks.
